Masterson Method for Dogs: Canine Bodywork or Doggy Voodoo?
If you’ve ever watched your dog go from zoomies to full-body limp mode in under ten seconds, you know they’re both elite athletes and professional drama queens. But just like us, dogs can get stiff, sore, and downright grumpy when their bodies aren’t feeling great. That’s where I come in!
I specialize in canine bodywork, including the Masterson Method, a gentle yet powerful technique that helps dogs release tension, improve mobility, and feel their absolute best. Whether your pup is an agility superstar, a weekend warrior, or a couch enthusiast who occasionally overdoes it, I can help them move and feel better.
What Is the Masterson Method?
The
Masterson Method is a form of interactive bodywork that focuses on reading
your dog’s subtle responses (blinking, licking lips, yawning, etc.) to
release deep tension and restrictions in their body. Unlike deep-pressure
massage or chiropractic care, this method works with your dog’s nervous system
to encourage gentle, lasting relaxation and better mobility.
Think of it like a stress-relief session for your pup—except instead of venting about their problems, they’ll just yawn dramatically and melt into a puddle of relaxation.
How Does It Work?
A session with me looks something like this:
1. I
apply a gentle touch to key areas like the poll, shoulders, and hips.
2. Your
dog gives tiny signals—a blink, twitch, or sigh- suggesting they’ve
just endured the longest day ever.
3. I
pause and wait. And wait. And possibly question how dogs are so dramatic.
4. Your
dog releases tension—it can look like yawning, licking, stretching, or suddenly deciding I’m their favourite person.
It’s all about working with your dog instead of forcing anything, so even the most skeptical pups warm up to it (once they realize it actually feels amazing).
What
Are the Benefits?
After a Masterson session, many dogs show visible improvements in flexibility, comfort, and relaxation. Common benefits include:
✔️ Better mobility –
Ideal for aging dogs, agility dogs, or that one pup who insists on launching
off the couch like a stunt double.
✔️ Less tension –
Especially in the neck, shoulders, and back (aka the “I chased the ball for
hours and regret my choices” muscle groups).
✔️ Increased relaxation – Perfect for anxious dogs or those who treat vet visits like an end-of-the-world scenario.
